ARMY KWAJALEIN ATOLL, Marshall Islands, Oct. 21, 2011 -- Helping the
blind see was just one of the goals for Dr. Jeff Rutgard and a team of volunteer medical
professionals who spent two weeks working on Ebeye and departed Friday.
Canvasback
Ministries Inc. is a non-profit organization that has been working in
the Marshall Islands since 1986. This year Canvasback sent experts in
ophthalmology, optometry, dermatology and dentistry to Ebeye and
Ennibur.
The Eye Ambassador, Dr. Jeff Rutgard undertakes medical missions throughout the World. All of Dr. Jeff's friends call him the "eye ambassador" because of his constantly-occurring travel to obscure places, bringing sight to those in need.
Dr. Rutgard, MD., is famous for many things, including the RUTGARD TECHNIQUE, a string of new techniques for eye surgeries, prompting faster recovery times and less complications. “Thirteen blind, assisted into a charity clinic run by the “Flying Samaritans,” walked out with sight!” says Medical Director, Pat Griffith. This was a unique situation as the team consisted of Dr. Jeff Rutgard, Ann Hornby, Shervin Alborzian, Steve Montgomery, and Igor Kozak. Surgical assistants included Vy Le, Alex Gomez, and clinic assistant Rachel Johnston.
